The Silenced Song of the Vampyre

Painful silence in the shadowlands
The steel grey world of immortal midnight
Tormented lost souls cry out their pain and angst
The living dead wander hopelessly

One wraith floats on
Enroute to nowhere
Exhausted in the endless journey
Shunning contact with all others

A decrepit mausoleum
The dead comiserate separately
While the living gawk and laugh
Respectful moonlight never shines

One wraith floats sadly past
Wishing for one more tear to cry
Then stops
Transfixed

In a shattering corner
Surrounded alone
A beautiful young vampyre
Dancing in the mirror

Pale and thin
Graceful and tragic
Music in her dance
Story in her dance

She has almost died
Many times almost died
Yet something in her lives
And echoes within one wraith

One wraith manifests
A body twice her size
Mirror facing mirror
They share a secret dance

So gracefully the vampyre
Plays music with her motion
One wraith gently moves with her
Playing the harmony

Never touching yet connected
Feeling only their own music
Their eyes reflect each other
The doorways to their souls

Through the doorway to the vampyre's soul...

A perfect blue building
A big beautiful house
A house that was never a home
A burned, decayed, crumbled ruin

A fleeting glimpse of the vampyre
One wraith follows quickly
She disappears
She is not here

Some illusion stands in her place
A picture of a sweet young girl
Docile, dutiful, obedient, quiet
A good girl

One wraith barely even notices this
This was never real
A character in no one's play
For no one to believe

The echo is here
The silenced song of the vampyre
From within the ruins
From deep within the ruins

Downward descends one wraith
Through cellars and dungeons and catacombs
To a cold, dark basement
Strewn with rubble and ashes

A soft glow from behind a wall of rubble
Packed with ashes for its mortar
The song comes from here
Someone sings the song here

One wraith sneaks through the thick rubble
The song still echoes within
The song the vampyre danced
The glow still shines through the cracks

A broken angel sings the song
A broken angel softly glowing
Terrified and scarred, both her wings are broken
So beautiful

One wraith sneaks through the thick rubble
To touch the beautiful broken angel
She cautiously welcomes him
So long alone down here

Ghostly fingers caress her golden hair
Trace her scars
Her soft, fragile, broken wings
Her beautiful face

A broken angel sings her glowing song for one wraith
One wraith sings the beautiful angel's harmony
They are kindred united
They cry for each other
